Ultrasound usually refers to a vibration wave with a frequency higher than 16kHz, that is, higher than the upper limit of artificial hearing frequency. The upper frequency range of the ultrasonic is mainly determined by the generator, and the actual use is within 5000MHz. Ultrasound, like sound waves, can propagate in gas, liquid and solid media, but due to its high frequency, short wavelength, and large energy, reflection, refraction, resonance and loss are significant during propagation.
Ultrasound has the following main properties
1.It can transmit very strong energy, and its energy density can reach more than 100W/m2;
2.It has a cavitation effect, that is, when the ultrasonic wave propagates in the liquid medium, it will locally produce a great impact force, instantaneous high temperature, material dispersion, crushing and various physical and chemical effects;
3.When passing through different media, there will be a sudden wave speed change at the interface, resulting in wave reflection, transmission and refraction;
4.It has sharp directivity, that is, when the ultrasonic transducer is set as a small disc, the sound intensity in the center normal direction is extremely large, and when it deviates from this direction, the sound intensity will be weakened;
5.Under certain conditions, interference and resonance of waves will occur.

Ultrasonic processing has many applications in welding and cleaning.
